RF Control System for the NLC Linacs*
نویسنده
چکیده
Abstract The proposed Next Linear Collider contains a large number of linac RF systems with new requirements for wideband klystron modulation and accurate RF vector detection. The system will be capable of automatically phasing each klystron and compensating for beam loading effects. Accelerator structure alignment is determined by detection of the beam induced dipole modes with a receiver similar to that used for measuring the accelerator RF and is incorporated into the RF system topology. This paper describes the proposed system design, signal processing techniques and includes preliminary test results.

Beam Loading Compensation for the Nlc Low Frequency Linacs
The NLC low rf linacs are heavily loaded by a beam of about 130 ns in macropulse length (90 bunches) and a current up to 2.75 Amps. Beam loading voltage generates a large energy spread along the bunch train. This energy spread is critical for lattice design and, if not properly compensated, induces emittance growth and in turn lowers the luminosity of the machine. In this paper, we study the AF...
متن کاملBeam Loading Compensation for the Low Frequency Linacs and Compressors in the Nlc
The low frequency rf linacs and bunch compressors in the NLC are heavily loaded by beam currents up to 0.9 A. Beam loading generates bunch-to-bunch energy deviations, which need to be compensated to operate with long bunch trains in the linear collider. There are two basic compensation techniques, namely T and F schemes. The F scheme is operationally straightforward but requires additional rf s...
متن کاملEmittance and Trajectory Control in the Main Linacs of the Nlc
The main linacs of the next generation of linear colliders need to accelerate the particle beams to energies of up to 750 GeV while maintaining very small emittances. This paper describes the main mechanisms of static emittance growth in the main linacs of the Next Linear Collider (NLC). We present detailed simulations of the trajectory and emittance control algorithms that are foreseen for the...

An electron/positron linear collider with a center-of-mass energy between 0.5 and 1 TeV is recognized as an important complement to the physics program of the LHC. The Next Linear Collider (NLC) is being designed by a US collaboration (FNAL, LBNL, LLNL, and SLAC) which is working closely with the Japanese collaboration that is designing the Japanese Linear Collider (JLC). The NLC/JLC main linac...
